Confused about what size tablecloth you need? Or, have other questions about tablecloths? This article has general information about table linens and aims to answer any questions you may have.
What size tablecloth do I need?
The size table linen you need will depend on what you will be using it for, and your personal preference.
When tablecloths are used for serving, or as display tables, you may want them to go all the way to the floor.
Tables generally have a height of 30". So, to determine the correct size you would add 60" to the table length and width. To be certain, you may want to measure the height of your table.
Square and rectangular table linens that fall to the floor should have rounded corners. This will insure that there is not alot of extra fabric sticking out from the table at the corners.
For dining, most people like a drop between 8 and 12 inches. The best way to determine the drop you will like, is to take a flat sheet or large towel and drape it over one end of your table. Then, You decide what looks best.
After you have decided on the best drop, follow the instructions below to determine the size you will need.
1. Measure the length and width of you table at its largest point.
2. Multiply the drop by 2, and add the result to the length and width of your table measurements. This will give you your tablecloth size.
3. Order the closest standard size or place a custom order.
Tablecloths are frequently mis-labeled as to size. Therefore it is not a good idea to rely on tag information when deciding the size of a new one you will purchase. If you have a tablecloth already, and you like the size, it is suggested that you measure the cloth and not rely solely on the size label.

Round Square Rectangular Oval
Is my table an oval, or a racetrack?
If you have a long table with long straight sides and the table has half rounds at the ends, you have a racetrack shaped table.
If your table is long with curved sides and the table is rounded at the ends, then your table is oval
Many people have round tables which can be lengthened by adding leaves to it. Is it now an Oval?.....Or, is it a Racetrack?
Generally, when only one or two leaves is added to a table, the table becomes oval. However, when 3-4 leaves are added, the table may look better with a tablecloth that is racetrack shaped. Since table leaves can vary in width, it is best to look at the table with the leaves and make your own judgement.
You can use the formula given above to determine the size table linen you will need.
I want my banquet or square table linen to fall to the floor...?
Square and rectangular tablecloths that fall to the floor should be ordered with rounded corners. If your table is a standard height, add 58-60 inches to the length and width to calculate the finished tablecloth size. Most tables are 30 inches in height.
Do I want my table linen hemmed?
The most common type of tablecloth finish is called a merrow stitched edge. This is basicly a surged edge with 1/4 inch vertical stitching along the edge to keep the fabric from fraying.
For a more formal look, you may consider having your linen hemmed. On hemmed table linens the edge is turned under twice, 1/2 inch, and then machine stitched vertically along the edge.
